How satisfied are shop operators and branch managers from retail, gastronomy and services with their shopping center sites? SES, Austria’s largest shopping mall operator, wanted to know precisely this for its locations – and asked its shop partners for details. The study was undertaken by TQS Research & Consulting KG in April and May 2025, with over 600 shops participating. The current satisfaction analysis shows that four out of five shop partners rate SES as “very good” or “good”. The shop partners were most satisfied with their partnership-based cooperation with the center management, the center’s positive image and the financial framework conditions.

SES Spar European Shopping Centers carried out a comprehensive satisfaction study among its own shop partners in spring 2025. The result: 627 shops from 13 shopping centers took part in the online survey, corresponding to a participation rate of just under 80 percent. In all cases the survey respondents were the persons with personal knowledge of the conditions at the center, namely the operators and branch managers on the spot.

Top marks for SES locations
Using the standard Austrian school grading system, with 1 the highest and 5 the lowest mark, 82 percent of respondents graded their overall satisfaction with SES as “very good” or “good” (1.7). They awarded particularly high satisfaction scores for the working relationship with the center management on the spot (1.6), the center’s marketing activities (1.7) and the center’s image/reputation (1.7). What is most important overall in the center for the shop partners? The 3 top-rated aspects here were the center’s image (rated as 1.7), the shop’s sales revenue (2.2) and the shop’s customer footfall (2.3).

Appreciation for the center management on the spot
In the results, the respondents particularly emphasized the reliability of the center management, the ease of contacting the team, the clear information flow and the professional technical support. For the shop operators, this proximity and personal contactability form the basis for a working relationship based on trust.

Christoph Andexlinger, CEO SES Spar European Shopping Centers:
“It is our task to create vibrant environments of the greatest relevance to the customers. For this to succeed, naturally we also have to offer our shop partners the best possible environment so they can present their products and services to our visitors in an inviting atmosphere and attractive surroundings. The success factors also include the fact that our center management teams are easy to contact on the spot every day. So we are very pleased with the high level of satisfaction with our teams as reported by our shop partners.”

The survey was undertaken by TQS Research & Consulting KG in the period April to May 2025, using CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interviews) as the survey procedure.
