Spring has come in Wels: Recently the sun literally rose when the go-ahead was given for starting up the new photovoltaic system at the MAX.CENTER in Wels. The solar power plant covers 340 square metres on the projecting roof, and will immediately contribute to covering the electricity consumed by the MAX.CENTER. The photovoltaic system with a capacity of 73 kWp consists of 168 panels, and in future will generate around 70,000 kWh of energy a year. So the Wels Shopping Center is taking a further important step towards sustainability. At the same time, all three Upper Austrian shopping malls operated by SES Spar European Shopping Centers (WEBERZEILE Ried, VARENA Vöcklabruck, MAX.CENTER Wels) now have around 12,740 square metres in total of futuristic PV equipment. In Austria as a whole, PV systems have already been installed on seven SES malls, covering over 20,000 square metres in total.

SES Spar European Shopping Centers is consolidating its position in the Northern Italian market. With the purchase of the IL GRIFONE shopping center in Bassano del Grappa, located in the highly affluent region of Vicenza/Veneto, the real estate developer and operator takes over a well-established location with immediate effect. The seller of the property is a fund of MCAP Global Finance (UK) LLP, the European branch of Marathon Asset Management LP ('Marathon') headquartered in New York. The center, which opened its doors in 2009, boasts over 20,000 square meters of gross leasable area (GLA), 7,000 of which already belonged to the SPAR Group (ASPIAG Italy) prior to the takeover. This latest addition takes the SES portfolio to 31 locations, three of which are already classed as large-scale Italian shopping malls.

All Slovenian SES shopping malls to be fitted with large-scale photovoltaic systems from now on

SES invests approximately 5.5 million euros in generating its own power in Slovenia

The number of photovoltaic surfaces installed on SES shopping malls is constantly increasing. This year, SES has invested in the construction of photovoltaic systems in the five Slovenian shopping centers, namely ALEJA, CITYPARK and CENTER VIČ in Ljubljana, CITYCENTER Celje and EUROPARK Maribor. The systems, boasting a total output of 4,300 kilowatts, have been in operation since July and August. They cover around one-fifth of the centers’ electricity requirement with a 1,200-ton saving in terms of CO2 emissions. The SES climate objective to fit photovoltaic systems on at least 50 percent of its available mall roof surfaces by 2040 has therefore already been achieved or exceeded to significant extent in Slovenia. SES is currently operating four photovoltaic systems in Austria. An additional three locations are scheduled to be equipped with these systems by the end of the year.
