SES sends a strong signal in favor of sustainable management and environmental protection: at the end of 2024 the company successfully introduced a comprehensive environmental management system and obtained certification in accordance with ISO 14001 from TÜV AUSTRIA. This applies to both the SES head office and to 15 SES shopping malls in Austria.

Acting sustainably has always been part of the DNA of SES. So for many years, the developer and operator of 31 shopping malls in Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, Hungary and Czechia has also defined a clear energy policy and used a certified energy management system.

Now the company is going one step further, by adding more key activities to its energy management system, and expanding this into an environmental management system – from procurement and waste management to protecting resources. By doing this, SES is firmly establishing its environmental policy and defining the framework for acting sustainably in all areas.

Central principles of the SES environmental management system on the basis of ecological, economic and social sustainability:

  • Prevention of environmental pollution: SES is committed to minimizing emissions and waste wherever possible.
  • Protection of resources: SES pays attention to using sustainable materials and efficient processes in both construction and procurement.
  • Continuous development: SES continuously analyzes and improves its environmental performance.

Sustainability for following generations
SES focuses in particular on the procurement principles which form the basis for sustainable purchasing: procurement only when it is actually necessary, giving preference to regional and Group sources, promoting the recyclability of products and materials, and ensuring the greatest possible efficiency and longevity of goods and services. In the long term SES is pursuing further ambitious goals, including reducing the volume of residual waste by ten percent, obtaining 100 percent of energy from renewable sources, and installing photovoltaic systems on 50 percent of the available roof areas.

Christoph Andexlinger, CEO SES Spar European Shopping Centers:
“The introduction of the environmental management system is the next milestone in our sustainable development. With this we are creating the basis for operating our shopping malls in a way that is fit for our grandchildren and for the future, while also protecting resources.”
