As early as in 2019, SES Spar European Shopping Centers introduced an energy management system, in accordance with EN ISO 50001:2018, for its Austrian shopping centers, which has recently been successfully re-certified by TÜV AUSTRIA. SES has been able to simultaneously roll out the energy management system at all SES shopping centers in Slovenia and Italy, obtaining TÜV AUSTRIA certification for the centers in all three countries.

SES Spar European Shopping Centers has been working with an ISO 50001:2018 energy management system at all of its centers since 2019, and the system was successfully re-certified by TÜV AUSTRIA earlier this year. The real estate company, which is part of the SPAR Austria Group, has also implemented and certified the energy management system at all INTERSPAR stores and Maximarkt locations within the Group. The same system has been in use in both Slovenia and Italy since August 2022 and has been successfully certified by TÜV AUSTRIA.

As a developer, builder, and operator of retail properties, SES has consistently relied on solutions for the energy-efficient operation of its shopping centers for many years. In recent years, energy consumption has been reduced by up to 40 percent, depending on the center. SES has been committed to making a strong contribution to climate protection through sustainable real estate development for years – with clear climate targets.

Energy-saving Measures That Have Already Been Implemented
Climate protection and the active reduction of energy consumption have been on the agenda at SES for many years. In the past, measures have included, for example, the successive, complete conversion to energy-saving LED technology for facade and interior lighting, the use of heat recovery and night ventilation for air conditioning, and a ventilation control system inside centers that is tailored to visitor footfall.

In light of the current energy situation, SES is looking at every additional opportunity to further conserve energy. Since August 2022, the external and advertising lighting of all SES shopping centers has been turned on no earlier than one hour before the stores open and has been turned off one hour after the stores close. Illumination levels are lowered whenever there is sufficient outdoor light.

SES shopping centers in Austria and Italy operate on 100 percent green electricity, which is also utilized to power all of the e-charging stations installed at the shopping centers, among other things.
