Following the successful premiere of an exhibition presented by the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien at EUROPARK Salzburg last year, the Weltmuseum Wien is currently the second museum affiliated with the KHM Museum Association to make a guest appearance at Salzburg’s most popular shopping center. The Weltmuseum Wien’s special exhibition, “Museum in a Nutshell”, will provide an exclusive overview of its collections from Thursday, 9 to Saturday, 25 June 2022. Once again, EUROPARK Salzburg will be transformed into a cultural venue, showcasing one of the most prestigious ethnographic museums in the world. During the opening weekend of the exhibition, professional cultural mediators will accompany visitors throughout the exhibition, which is free of charge.

Last year, EUROPARK provided the stage for a special exhibition that had never been seen before: The Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, one of the largest museums in the world, presented an excerpt of high-quality replicas of world-famous works of art right inside the shopping center. The decision to bring art directly to the people and to arouse the visitor interest in art at the shopping center was both successful and extremely well received by visitors far beyond the borders of Salzburg. The continuation of this hitherto unique cooperation is now being carried out with the Weltmuseum Wien.

Art Treasures from All over the World Showcased at EUROPARK
The Weltmuseum Wien, one of the most renowned museums in the world, will be offering insight into its collections and art treasures from Thursday, 9 June to Saturday, 25 June: The “Museum in a Nutshell” exhibition features a wave-shaped themed wall and a cylindrical cube, on which a number of the Weltmuseum Wien's key pieces are displayed. Visitors can also get information on relevant and current topics related to the ethnographic collections of the Weltmuseum Wien, such as colonialism and the question of how the pieces actually made their way to the museum.

Six original objects in the Weltmuseum Wien collection are displayed in showcases around the exhibition cylinder, and described in detail inside a folder. One such item is a wahaika, a traditional Maori weapon, which was created especially for the exhibition at EUROPARK by Maori artist George Nuku. Nuku’s captivating work will be on display from 23 June 2022 in the Oceans. Collections. Reflections. exhibition at the Weltmuseum Wien.

“The presentation at EUROPARK is designed to give Salzburg an impression of the magnificent diversity of cultures that can be experienced at the Weltmuseum Wien. Our aim is to whet the appetite of each visitor and to encourage them to take a closer look at Austria’s largest house of world art and world cultures on their next trip to Vienna,” said Dr. Jonathan Fine, Director of the Weltmuseum Wien.

“We are very pleased to be able to continue our cooperation with the KHM Museum Association and to have the Weltmuseum Wien as our guest this year – another distinguished museum offering an exclusive exhibition. Shopping at EUROPARK and being surprised by highlights and new experiences, including cultural offers, go hand in hand. Art and culture are core areas of focus for us. Over the next few weeks, our visitors will have the unique opportunity to marvel at selected cultural treasures directly inside the center,” emphasizes Christoph Andexlinger, EUROPARK Managing Director and Chief Operations Officer at SES Spar European Shopping Centers.

Free Guided Tours for Visitors and School Groups
On 10 and 11 June 2022, cultural mediators from the Weltmuseum Wien will provide free insight into the collections and guide EUROPARK visitors and school groups through the “Museum in a Nutshell” – a miniature museum designed to inspire people to visit the Weltmuseum Wien in person. Participation in guided tours requires registration via email: marketing@europark.at.

EUROPARK: Art and Culture Go Hand in Hand with Shopping
Once again, EUROPARK has proven that cultural events and shopping enjoyment go hand in hand. The shopping center provides an ideal platform from which the subject of culture can be presented directly to the public. EUROPARK’s artistic and cultural aspirations are also manifested on numerous other levels. The artistic concept is reflected in the extraordinary architecture of EUROPARK, which was designed by the Roman star architect Massimiliano Fuksas. Works of art such as the 35m-high “The Tree” sculpture by the renowned American artist Jonathan Borofsky, which is situated directly along the highway, or “Affentor 1” by the German painter and sculptor Jörg Immendorff, have impressed EUROPARK visitors for several years now. OVAL, the in-house art and culture stage that features 250 performances per year, highlights the festival city of Salzburg’s roots as well as its high-quality shopping center in a very soul-stirring way. Hand-picked cooperations round off the commitment, such as Mozart Week, which is organized by the International Mozarteum Foundation under the artistic direction of star tenor Rolando Villazón.

About the KHM Museum Association
The KHM Museum Association is one of the most internationally renowned museum organizations, and its formerly Imperial Habsburg collections consistently rank among the top ten in worldwide museum rankings. As Austria's largest museum group, it includes three federal museums: the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, the Weltmuseum Wien and the Theatermuseum. The KHM Museum Association, via Schloss Ambras Innsbruck, is currently the only federal museum to have a representative office in the provinces. The KHM Museum Association is at the forefront of Austrian museums and is represented by a total of eight museum locations: Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna at Maria-Theresien-Platz, Ephesos Museum and Weltmuseum Vienna (imperial hunting and armory as well as a collection of ancient musical instruments) in Neue Burg, Theatermuseum at Lobkowitz Palace, Imperial Treasury at Hofburg Palace Vienna, Imperial Carriage Museum at Schönbrunn Palace, Temple of Theseus at Volksgarten Vienna, and Schloss Ambras in Innsbruck.
