As of Monday, 7 December, all stores and service providers that operate within SES shopping centers have reopened following the end of the lockdown. All stores are now open Monday to Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM; grocery stores, in most cases, are open earlier. On Immaculate Conception Day, 8 December, the centers and stores were open from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Some restaurants now offer take-away services; however, food and drinks may only be consumed outside of the centers. With regard to hygiene measures, SES is also well prepared: SES and the shopping centers it runs are the only operators in Austria to date to have been awarded TÜV AUSTRIA certification for their comprehensively tested hygiene management in common areas. In addition to the safe strolling and shopping, SES shopping centers and their retailers have prepared themselves for the Christmas shopping season for several weeks. The wide range of products, the beautiful Christmas decorations, and the carefully selected Christmas music all contribute to a pleasant Christmas shopping experience. The operator, which counts 15 shopping centers in Austria, recommends that its customers visit its locations during the typical off-peak hours before 11:00 AM and after 4:00 PM, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays, in order to ensure a balanced distribution of footfall.

SES Spar European Shopping Centers' shopping destinations remained open for basic visitor services throughout the second lockdown phase. With the exception of the gastronomy operators, the centers returned to "normal mode" on Monday, 7 December, and their comprehensive hygiene measures and extensive product offerings have ensured that they are well prepared for the Christmas shopping season. Some restaurants offer take-away services, but the food can only be consumed outside of the centers.

TÜV AUSTRIA Certified Hygiene Standards in Austria
SES Spar European Shopping Centers recently became the first company in the retail sector to be certified in accordance with the new TÜV AUSTRIA Hygiene Management Standard, with particular attention paid to the current COVID-19 pandemic. The general areas of each center, including the sanitary facilities of the shopping centers in Austria as well as the OVAL art and cultural center in EUROPARK Salzburg and the SES headquarters in Salzburg, were included in the certification. The certification standard serves as confirmation of the safe and clean operation of the centers and supports the sustainable minimization of the effects of the current pandemic. It covers all hygiene measures, such as the continuous increase in the supply of fresh air inside each center by up to 100 percent, the intensified cleaning and disinfection of all touch points, such as fittings, railings, elevator buttons, as well as restroom facilities, and the clearly visible and audible instructions concerning compliance with the measures.A sufficient number of disinfectant dispensers have also been made available to customers.

Christmas Shopping at SES
“Retailers can now breathe a deep sigh of relief, and we are extremely pleased that our shopping centers can finally ring in the fully-fledged Christmas shopping season following the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus,” says Marcus Wild, CEO of SES Spar European Shopping Centers. “Despite the current circumstances, we have created safe and hygienic atmospheric shopping experiences for our visitors within our spacious centers. Anyone who now chooses to shop at one of our retailers, instead of shopping online, directly supports the preservation of hundreds of thousands of jobs in the Austrian retail sector.”

A representative survey that was recently conducted throughout Austria by the Linz Market Institute on behalf of SES revealed that, in terms of job losses, 40 percent of Austrians felt threatened by the increasing outflow of purchasing power to foreign online retailers, either themselves or in their immediate environments. Not only does the outflow of purchasing power have a negative effect on jobs in brick-and-mortar retail, but it impacts the production, supply, and businesses that are involved in the sector as well.
